Gazprom continuing to prepare Kovyktinskoye field for commercial production

Release

A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Sergey Levchenko, Governor of the Irkutsk Region, took place in Moscow today.

The parties discussed ongoing and future cooperation, noting the strategic importance of the Irkutsk Region for Gazprom. The Company is shaping a major gas production center on the basis of the Kovyktinskoye field, which is unique in terms of its gas reserves (2.7 trillion cubic meters).

Gazprom continues to prepare Kovyktinskoye to move from pilot development to commercial production. Comprehensive geological studies are currently underway at the field. In 2017, two exploratory wells were drilled and 3D seismic surveys covering 2,400 square kilometers were performed. Efforts are being made to design the site structures and facilities for production purposes, along with gas transmission capacities. It is planned to start feeding gas from Kovyktinskoye into the Power of Siberia gas pipeline in late 2022, with a section of the pipeline to be laid in the Irkutsk Region.

In this connection, the parties addressed the common long-term objectives for gas supplies and NGV market development in the Irkutsk Region.

Background

Gazprom and the Government of the Irkutsk Region are bound by the agreements on cooperation and wider use of natural gas as a vehicle fuel, as well as the gasification accord. The parties are also implementing the roadmap for the broader use of hi-tech products, including import-substituting ones, manufactured by regional producers in the interests of Gazprom.

Natural gas penetration in the Irkutsk Region is currently at 8.1 per cent.

A CNG filling station of Gazprom is active in Bratsk.

As part of the Gazprom for Children program, various multi-purpose sports grounds have been constructed in the region. Moreover, a modern water sports complex was built in Irkutsk.
